Another quick update as to my progress. 1028 words over the course of the weekend, and all on the scene that I had opened previously. For a first time through what I thought might be a tough scene, I am pleased. With that I think I am going to call it a weekend.
Current tally: 3570 words, for 47% of my total. =)

Quick update
I got held up with work stuff last night, but tonight was able to do some writing. 332 words for me. Still over my 250 goal, and a nice introduction to what should be an interesting action scene, so I will see how that goes in the next few days.
The interesting part about this experiment thus far is that I started with only a character in my head. No plot, only a basic idea of secondary characters, etc. It will be fascinating to see how this develops over the next 23 days to see what sort of plot I can concoct as I quite literally let the story write itself.
All told, I am now 33% through my goal, with a total word count of 2542

4 digits
The weekend more or less got away from me, for a whole host of reasons that really aren't worth expounding upon. I did some very basic writing, but lets just say, I am happy I was ahead of my goal.
That being said, I just got to a natural end of the scene I was working on and clocked in at 1031 words for the night, my first 4 digit day. Woohoo! It is definitely at a good place for me to put on the brakes for the night. Hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow and start up the next scene...or jump to a different part of the story. Only tomorrow will tell, spooky!
Grand total right now is 2210, 29% of my goal. =)

Mini NaNo
It is kind of funny being someone that considers himself a writer more than anything else and really failing to produce anything of substance for so long. Scribbles here and there, ideas repeated for various gaming sessions and/or campaigns, yet no real tangible thing. No short story, no poem, no novel. Just...idea's swirling in my head.
With that, I have entered into my first semi regimented writing battle on the coaxing of a good friend. I will be joining her and her crew as we embark on our own version of NaNo. I, more than anything, am using this as an opportunity to see if I can still be creative following a day of work if I force myself. My hope is that while the result may not be the best, it may open up the opportunity to improve it during the moments of true creativity. As it stands, its a far better gamble than being mopey and saying "I don't have time to write."
My current goal: 250 words a day for every day in November, or 7500 words at the end of it. Two days in, and I am past 1100 words, so I am pleased. I also know that there will be days I will not be able to commit, so getting out of the gate quickly only builds a worthwhile, and almost assuredly needed cushion.
Special thanks to Renee for pushing me to try, and for all her friends joining her as we traverse the month.
Cheers.
